maria sibylla merian is 366
Pleasantly surprised to see today’s Google Doodle, which celebrates the 366th birthday of the German naturalist/illustrator. About a year ago I had a lot of fun with this series of posts on her drawings of insects and other critters in Suriname.
But the Doodle seems like a rather pale rendering of Merian’s work, no?

Something to check out at the University of Kentucky Hospital: Lina Tharsing’s installation of a group of six paintings that reference images from the creation of the dioramas at the American Museum of Natural History in New York. These paintings have been installed at the Albert B. Chandler Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. (This is a UK Arts in Healthcare project.)
These paintings relate to her exhibition “Natural History” at Institute 193 in Lexington, Kentucky. She was recently interviewed about this work in Whitehot Magazine.
