Anders Nilsen, from Big Questions

Somehow the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice is more wrenching with little talking birds.

Also: 2007 Metabunker interview about Big Questions and Don’t Go Where I Can’t Follow, Nilsen’s memoir/memorial about his partner Cheryl Weaver, who died from cancer in 2005 at age 37 (8 months from diagnosis)

Roots, two ways. Anders Nilsen + Sonnenzimmer vs. Anders Nilsen solo.

More Nilsen.

Good Fences Make Good Neighbors - collaborative paintings by Anders Nilsen & Sonnenzimmer. Images from Nilsen’s blog, The Monologuist.
Exhibit statement from Fill in the Blank Gallery, Chicago:

Good Fences Make Good Neighbors is collaborative painting exhibit by Chicago based comic artist, Anders Nilsen, and local abstractionists, Sonnenzimmer. For the exhibit, Nadine Nakanishi and Nick Butcher of Sonnenzimmer have created a series of abstract landscape paintings to which Nilsen has added his own idiosyncratic and spare line work. Merging disparate mediums and styles, these collaborative works produce a graphic language all their own, one completely unique to the exhibit.

Nilsen adds:

The process has been, by turns, a delight, an ordeal, an education… It has turned out to be a vigorous conversation–and at times a vicious internal argument–between abstraction and representation, between painting and drawing, and between playfulness and planning.
